Certain sharks can detect an electric field as weak as 1.00 V/m. To grasp how weak this field is, if you wanted to produce it between two parallel metal plates by connecting an ordinary 1.50 V AA battery across these plates, how far apart would the plates have to be?

    The distance between the plates = 1.5 m.

    Explanation:

    Electric Field can be defined as the force per unit charge. The S. I unit of Electric Field is N/C or V/m.

    Mathematically,

    V = E * d

    Where,

    V = potential difference

    = 1.5 V

    E = Electric Field exerted

    = 1.0 V/m

    d = distance between the plates.

    d = 1.5/1.0

    = 1.5 m.
