The doctor will most likely use X-rays to check if the dog has swallowed the ring or no?

This is because X-rays are most commonly used to produce photographs of bones which can be checked for breaks or fractures.

X-rays can penetrate less dense matter such as skin and body tissue (but not bone) so if the dig has swallowed the ring we can easily tell as it will not be able to penetrate through the ring.
