A truck is traveling at 11.9 m/s down a hill when the brakes on all four wheels lock. The hill makes an angle of 15 ° with respect to the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the tires and the road is 0.861. How far does the truck skid before coming to a stop?

    s = 12.62 m

    Explanation:

    given,

    speed of the truck = 11.9 m/s

    angle of inclination = 15 °

    coefficient of friction = 0.861

    we know,

    we know

    m a = μ m g cos θ - m g sinθ

    a = μ g cos θ - m sinθ

    a = 0.861 x 9.8 x cos 15 ° - 9.8 sin15°

    a = 5.61 m/s²

    we know

    v² = u² + 2 a s

    final velocity zero

    0² = u² - 2 a s

    11.9² = 2 x 5.61 x s

    s = 12.62 m
