You are standing on a large sheet of frictionless ice and holding a large rock. in order to get off the ice, you throw the rock so it has velocity 12.0 m/s relative to the earth at an angle of 35.0∘ above the horizontal. your mass is 61.0 kg and the rock's mass is 4.00 kg. part a what is your speed after you throw the rock?

    Your velocity is. 645 m/s the opposite direction.

    Momentum has to be conserved so:

    (61kg+4kg) * 0 = (61kg*v) + (4kg * (12cos (35)))

    0=61kg*v+4kg*9.82982m/s

    -39p=61kg*v

    v=.645m/s

    We take the cos of the angle 35, because we only care about the force in the x direction.
