The electrons in an atom orbit around the nucleus, a bit like planets around a sun. Because electrons are negatively charged, and the center of the atom is positively charged, and because opposites attract, the nucleus of the atom keeps the electrons coming back. The electrons are not always evenly spread around the atom (you'll learn about this in high school chem and physics), but they are always orbiting.
