A water heater can generate 8700 kcal/hr. How much water can it heat from 11 degrees Celsius to 62 degrees Celsius in 1 hour?

    Explanation:

    Heat given out in one hour = 8700 x 10³ Cals

    Let mass of water m gm

    Heat taken up = mass x specific heat x rise in temperature

    = m x 1 x (62 - 11) [ specific heat of water is 1 cal per g per k ]

    Heat lost = heat gained

    51 m = 8700 x 10³

    m = 8700 / 51 x 10³

    170.59 x 10³ g

    170.59 kg.
