An electromagnetic wave of wavelength

5.89 * 10^-7 meter traveling through air is

incident on an interface with corn oil. Calculate

the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave in

corn oil. [Show all work, including the equation

and substitution with units.]

    The refractive index of corn oil is 1.47. As n = wavelength in vacuum / wavelength in corn oil and the wavelength in vacuum is approximately the same as the wavelength in air i. e. 5.89 x 10^-7m. Rearranging, we have, wavelength in corn oil = 5.89 x 10^-7 m / 1.47 = 4.00 x 10^-7m
