The temperature of aluminum increases from 30 to 38 degrees Celsius and absorbed 900J. Calculate the mass of aluminum used if the specific heat is 0.902 J/g K.

    Specific heat capacity (c) is defined as the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of an object / a body by 1kelvin.

    Mathematically, Q = mc∆t where;

    Q is the quantity of heat absorbed

    m is the mass of the object

    c is the specific heat capacity

    ∆t is the change in temperature = final temperature - initial temperature.

    Given Q = 900Joules, c = 0.902J/gK ∆t = 38°C - 30°C = 8°C = 8°C+273 = 281Kelvin

    m is the unknown

    Substituting this values in the given formula to get m we have;

    m = Q/c∆t

    m = 900/0.802 (281)

    m = 900/225.362

    m = 3.99g

    Mass of aluminum used is 3.99g
