Occasionally three polar bodies are found clinging to the mature ovum. One came from an unequal division of the ovum, but from where did the other two arise?

There were originally four polar bodies and one disappeared.

What you really see are two polar bodies and the sperm that will fertilize the egg.

One is an undeveloped primary oocyte that failed to mature.

The first polar body has also divided to produce two polar bodies.

The first polar body has also divided to produce two polar bodies.

    Explanation:

The reason why polar bodies are formed is because the oocyte does not disintegrate evenly. This type of cell disintegration or division forms haploid cells. Cytoplasm makes the egg to turn into a mature oven, as the polar body would then dissolve. The polar body initially found will then undergo meiosis 2 and then divide to form two secondary polar bodies.
