What gives the water in the gigantic metal tube (near Niagra Falls) its mechanical energy? Explain.

    Well, what is mechanical energy? Mechanical Energy is Kinetic Energy + Potential Energy. Niagra falls is a drop in elevation, so the water has a decrease in potential energy, which is transferred to the tube, which I'm assuming is a turbine of some sort that makes power.
