    The potential energy associated with the charge increases.

    The electric field will do a negative work on the charge.

    Explanation:

    As we know that the direction of the electric field is from positive to negative so if the negative charge is in the direction of electric field then it will decelerate and it's potential energy increases. So the electric field will do a negative work on it.
