Our Sun radiates 4 X 10^26 Joules of energy each second it shines. Calculate how many 50 megaton hydrogen bomb explosions would be needed to produce the same 4 X 10^26 Joules of energy that the Sun radiates in one second.?

    There are 4.184 X 10^9 J per ton of TNT, which means 4.184 X 10^15 J/Megaton of TNT. A 50 Megaton bomb therefore releases 50 times that, or 2.092 X 10^17 J. Dividing the sun's energy by this gives 1.912 X 10^9 bombs
