In what way would a digital thermometer be preferable to those from a liquid-based thermometer? Digital thermometer readings are easier to use when performing calculations. Digital thermometer readings can be more readily combined with computer software. Digital thermometer are inexpensive. Digital thermometer are less prone to fluctuation.

    pros The response time can be much much better. The value can be sent to a remote location electronically. Easily interfaced with a data logger or computerDifferent probes have a much greater range that liquid in glass or expanding bellows. Higher readability. This means you can have more digits past the decimal place. Sometimes digital thermometer will have more digits than is accurate. This is useful when you are comparing two different temperatures using the same thermometer. No parallax errors. (This comes from not viewing an analog readout exactly perpendicular to the face or liquid column)
