If you fill a car's gas tank, and then drive a couple of hundred miles or so, the car's gas gauge will tell you the tank is nearly empty. You know that energy cannot be created, destroyed or "used up."

A) how do you know this is true?

B) explain what happened to the energy that was stored in the gasoline

    A) This is true because of the principle of conservation of energy, which states that energy can neither be created or destroyed, but it can be interchanged from one form to another.

    B) The energy that was stored in the gasoline as chemical potential energy was released in the process of combustion and converted to heat energy and mechanical energy of the moving car.
