Why do you keep your legs far apart when you have to stand in the aisle of a bumpy-riding bus?

    If you stand with your legs together, you aren’t going to be able to balance as easily, and you may well end up in the lap of someone who is sitting down. If you spread your legs apart, however, you will be able to plant your feet and lean into any bumps, thus drastically lowering your chance of falling.
