The force that stops a block from sinking into the road surface is called the normal force. This normal force is the force exerted by the surface, in this case the road surface, to the object on it which is the block. The road surface exerts a normal force equal to the weight of the block which makes it stable and to our eyes, is in still and not moving. This creates pressure over the area that is covered by the block. Some call this force as reaction force, but it is typically referred to as normal force for the majority.
