A passenger on a jet plane is wondering why the flight times on her ticket are so different. Her flight from Los Angeles to Boston took five hours and 20 minutes; however, her return flight from Boston back to Los Angeles takes nearly six hours. How can you explain the difference to this passenger?

As she travels from LA to Boston, she will be traveling against the gulf stream so the flight speed will be slower.

As she travels from Boston to LA, she will be traveling against the jet stream so her flight time will be longer.
