A student wearing frictionless in-line skates on a horizontal surface is pushed by a friend with a constant force of 45 N. How far must the student be pushed, starting from rest, so that her final kinetic energy is 352 J?

    Work is obtained by multiplying the force and the object's displacement. The force and displacement and force should be in the same direction in order to have work.

    W = F x d

    d = W / F

    Substituting the known values,

    d = 352 J / 45 N = 7.82 m

    Thus, the displacement of the student is 7.82 m.
