A ball is thrown horizontally from a height of 17.3 m and hits the ground with a speed that is 5.00 times its initial speed. what is the speed in the vertical direction just before the ball hits the ground?

    Firstly, if you throw a ball horizontally, it will not affect the initial vertical speed (in vert. direction, initial speed/u = 0)

    therefore, you may consider the vertical direction as free fall under gravity.
