    Answer: A. As the kinetic energy increases, the potential energy decreases

    Explanation:

    Kinetic energy is the energy by virtue of its motion. It can be written as;

    K. E = 0.5mv^2

    Where m = mass, v = velocity,

    Potential energy is the energy by virtue of its position. It can be written as;

    P. E = mgh

    Where m = mass, g = acceleration due to gravity

    h = height.

    Therefore, when an object falls from a cliff, the potential energy is at maximum at the top of the cliff (height is directly proportional to the P. E), and the P. E reduces as it falls down the cliff. While for kinetic energy, it is at minimum at the minimum value at the top of the cliff increases as it falls down because of increasing in velocity as the object moves down.

    Hence, the kinetic energy increases as the potential energy decreases.
