Usually in two cases moon appears red.

First when there is a total lunar eclipse, the moon appears red and is known as blood moon. Second, moon some times appear to have a red glow in the some areas where air pollution caused by the smoke, dust, wildfires is high. In that case particles present in the atmosphere scatter the light and makes moon red.

The above statement is false as there are not reddish particles their up in the atmosphere that cause the reddish moon.
