An emf is induced by rotating a 1000-turn, 20.0 cm diameter coil in the Earth's 5.00*10-5T magnetic field. What average emf is induced, given the plane of the coil is originally perpendicular to the Earth's field and is rotated to be parallel to the field in 10.0 ms?

    0.157 Volts

    Explanation:

    N = Number of turns ion the coil = 1000

    d = diameter = 20 cm = 0.2 m

    Area of the coil is given as

    A = (0.25) πd² = (0.25) (3.14) (0.2) ² = 0.0314 m²

    t = time interval = 10 ms = 0.01 s

    ΔB = Change in magnetic field = 0 - 5 x 10⁻⁵ T = - 5 x 10⁻⁵ T

    Average induced emf is given as

    E = - N ΔBA/t

    E = - (1000) ( - 5 x 10⁻⁵) (0.0314) / (0.01)

    E = 0.157 Volts
