Gliding joint (plane joint or planar joint,) is a synovial joint formed by two flat bones surfaces joined together by ligaments. This allows for flexibility in any direction along the bone such as sliding, twisting, bending, stretching and circular (rotation) movements. The synovial fluid between the bone surfaces reduces friction at the joint. This type of joints can be found in the human body at the wrist, foot, palm, ankle.
