    Explanation:

    The amount of punch served = 2 1/2 gallons

    The amount of punch consumed = 1 3/4 gallons

    The amount left = Total - consumed

    2 1/2 - (1+3/4) = 5/2 - 7/4

    10/4 - 7/4 = 3/4

    This much amount of punch can be stored in one gallon only.
