The correct answer to this open question is the following.

The Tin Man is one of the greatest characters in "The Wizard of Oz." The design of the custom in the move was an attractive one for that time, but it was really and uncomfortable one that seemed so "raw" or "primitive," and clearly limited the mobility and actions of the characters. The artistic intent was to look very realistic and visually was credible for the time. However, in a modern version for a theater production what I would do would be a beautiful design in which the clothes simulated the tin design, very detailed designs in the custom to allow full mobility to the character so it can dances and sign. I would use a small head such as the ones used by College sports mascots to make it attractive, but that always allows the proper mobility to the character.

    Tin Man Costume

    Explanation:

The costume of the Tin Man has the advantage that it looks realistic since it's made out of metal, one of the disadvantages it's that even though it looks great, it doesn't feel comfortable or flexible at all. I think that the costume doesn't allow the character to move naturally, if I was designing the costume I would try to make it a little more flexible.
