    Colleges use sat scores in the admissions process because they believe these scores provide some insight into how high school students are educated in the sciences, maths, reading, and critical thinking. Test scores are often used to evaluate a student's knowledge having completed the course. Usually those scores are compared to the beginning scores when the students were tested on subject matter they were to learn. So comparing the before to the after gives a measure of growth or decline which influences teaching tactics.
