    An oligarchy is when a few powerful people are in charge such as wealthy bankers or battle hardened warriors (the main difference between an oligarchy and an aristocracy is that aristocratic rulers are determined via birth into the ruling families) in Ancient Greece, many city states were governed by oligarchies, one of the city states being Sparta
