Explanation:

-Quebec City is one of the oldest European settlements in Canada. Upon Jacques Cartier's arrival in the area, in 1535, the site of present-day Quebec was a ferret town called "Stadacone".

However, it was not until 1608 when explorer Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec near the abandoned ferret village. In the Iroquois language, Kebec means "where the river narrows", referring to the narrowing that occurs in the Saint Lawrence River, reaching the height of the current Quebec (left bank) and Levis (right bank).

-The first European to step on the current city of Montreal was Jacques Cartier, who had sailed the Saint Lawrence River, in 1535 because he heard rumors in an Iroquois village that gold existed in the Montreal Island.

Samuel de Champlain went to the island of Montreal twice, in 1603 and 1611, almost a century after Cartier.
