Both similes and metaphors compare things that are essentially different yet have something in common.

    Simile can be defined as an explicit comparison introduced with the words "like" or "as" between things that are basically different. On the other hand, metaphor is also an explicit comparison but it is NOT introduced with the words "like" or "as". So it can be concluded that both are explicit comparison.
