During the 19th century, History shows that Memphis became the core of trade and transportation. The main reason for its increasing trade activities was due to its ideal location. Memphis was located high above the Mississippi River. Hence, there were no chances of a flood to occur in the area. As a result, goods were more protected from disasters and could be easily transported. The city of Memphis marked its name for being the major source of cotton.
