Around 1500. Portuguese colonizers came to Brazil and started the colonization of the region. This period of colonization lasted for around 300 years, during which people of the region accepted many Portuguese customs and traditions. Acceptance of the Roman Catholic faith and the Portuguese language are among them

Today, Portuguese is an important part of Brazilian culture. There are around 210 million people in Brazil using this language as the native one.

Compared to the fact that there are only around 10 million people in Portugal, we can see how come there are more speakers in Latin America than in Portugal where the language originated from.
