Alligators have inhabited freshwater lakes in Florida for many years. As the human population in Florida increases, development reduces the amount of habitat available to the alligators. What will most likely happen to the alligator population in Florida if the human population continues to increase?

Due to the fact that alligators have increasingly lost land to human advancement in Florida, through the establishment of small towns in swampy terrain or near lakes, two consequences can be expected in the event that human advancement follow its course:

1 - it could happen that alligators begin to perish due to lack of vital space, with the consequent extinction in the places where the man settles; or

2 - it could happen that alligators adapt to the urban environment, with which the cities will be overpopulated with these animals.
