To what extent did extreme abolitionists do more harm than good, with regard to the slavery problem?

    Extreme abolitionists did more harm than good because they tended towards extreme militancy, and with their use of virulent words, the extreme abolitionists turned off Southerners to their cause. This did more harm than good, first to the slaves, then also the abolition cause in general.
