Thousands of Russian citizens marched on St. Petersburg in 1905 because of the terrible working conditions they endured. A majority of these strikers and protesters were urban poor factory workers who were receiving unbearably low wages, extremely long work hours, abuse and total authority from their bosses and had unsafe working conditions. They were also confronted with unfamiliar social relationships between their bosses and them and living in the city versus living in the countryside or in small towns.
