The elections of 1796 changed the nature of politics in United States as now more than one candidate ran and competed for the post of the President.

    Explanation:

The candidate who received more votes became the President whereas the one who got the second place became the Vice President. The elections were dominated by the rivalry between the two parties whose candidates competed for the post of the President. Also the differences in parties were based on how and where people lived and elected their representative.
