The law which requires vehicle manufacturers to include certain safety features like safety belts and shatter proof glass in their vehicles is called the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety act. It was enacted in the year 1966 to administer and set new standards in safety for vehicles and in traffic safety. It is aimed to decrease the number of traffic accidents and the number of injuries and deaths involved in the accidents. It results to specific standards being set on the construction, design and the operation of vehicles. In relation to this, the Highway safety act was enacted as well which covers safety standards for highways and roads.
