Skye's motivation to play the piano is societal praise and not her own interest.

    Explanation:

Sometimes, children and even adults do certain things to heighten their self esteem by gaining praise form their elders or people who matter to them.

They would enjoy doing this things only when there are people who would appreciate them for doing it and would not bother about them once they are alone or when they have no one left to impress with their skills.

This is known as societal praise and when someone receives it they feel good and are motivated to work towards something.
