Suffering from a pattern of pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation would most likely be diagnosed with avoidant personality disorder. This disorder causes major problems that would affect one's ability in interacting with people and maintaining relationships. The person would find it hard to connect with people and would be hesitant in seeking out friendships unless he is sure that the person would like him. It is estimated that about 1% of the population has this personality disorder. Some symptoms of this are avoiding tasks that would involve criticism and possible rejection, low self-esteem and self-isolation.
