How did nativists feel about the ability of immigrants to assimilate

    Nativism is the political view that favours people who are already in the country, as opposed to the newcomers or the immigrants.

    So they would be against immigration. This view would correlate with their belief that the immigrant won't really assimilate (this can be a cause OR a result of their general anti-immigration bias)
