Answer: Id and superego

Explanation: One of these sides Id, according to Sigmund Freud, the selfish side occurs at birth, when all psychic energy is directed towards satisfying personal needs. It is, according to Freud, the impulsive, imaginary side of the personality, and the only thing that it wants is the immediate satisfaction of needs. The baby is crying when she is hungry until she is fed.

During the growing up, during the infancy, the ego appears, the balance between Id and superego. The ego is a more rational side of personality than Id, still shows forms of selfishness, but the person becomes aware that it is possible to satisfy needs in real ways. So the ego is still immature and the child learns that its needs can not be satisfied at any time, but has to wait for a convenient moment. For example, a child will not cry when hungry, but will take the first opportunity to satisfy its hunger.

During development, the personality becomes mature and comes to the stage of the developed superego. This is the so-called problem-solving side; in the personality the cognitive learning process is being developed. Superego is the opposite side of Id, and this side defines moral, social and ethical aspects. Superego usually occurs between the third and sixth year of age, when children learn moral values by observing the elderly.
