While undergoing a kidney transplant from a non-family member, the client's transplanted kidney has just had the arterial clamps removed. When explaining to the family why they had to remove the donor's kidney, the nurse will anticipate that the surgeon would likely include which statement?

The surgeon would state that hyperacute rejection occurs because antibodies against HLA antigens are deposited in vessels causing necrosis.

    Explanation:

A hyeracute rejection of the donor organ is an immune-mediated acute graft dysfunction which occurs within a short period after organ transplantation like that of lungs, kidneys, or heart.

The rejection is due to the presence of antidonor antibodies already in the recipient's body before the organ transplantation is done which settle along the blood vessels. These antibodies act against the HLA - human leukocyte antigen and trigger an immune-mediated reaction to fight against the foreign body which is the antigen.

These antibodies deposited on the blood vessels causes necrosis which makes the donor kidney turn purple and non-functional.
