The correct answer is that " religion is frequently used as a justification for persecution."

In the past, a religion of an individual is used to justify whether a person shall live or shall be persecuted. One of the examples is during the Early Christian Community, wherein Christians were persecuted during the early times and were not allowed to profess their faith in public or they will be captured and tortured, their freedom did not came until Emperor Constantine reigned over Rome, wherein the persecution of Christians were lifted.
