Why did Great Britain pass the sugar act, the stamp act, and the townshend acts

After the French and Indian war the British believed it was our job to pay for it and they did that by passing the sugar, stamp, and Townsend acts

The Circular Letter led to a series of Non-Importation Agreements, which reduced colonial imports from Britain in 1768-1769 by half. In April 1770, Parliament repealed all the Townshend duties except the tax on tea, which it retained in order to assert its right to tax the colonies.
