According to the 1790 census, where did enslaved people live within the United States?

    The correct answer is South, more precisely, states that later became the confederation. They lived there because the southern states supported slavery and had huge plantations of things like cotton and tobacco and they needed workers so they bought slaves from Africa. There was no need to have many of them in the North because it was mostly already developed and its economy relied on services more than on agriculture.
