The statement made by the sociologist about social institutions and other social units functions being intended and recognized by the participants is false.

    Explanation:

This is because, the relation between social institutions and the functions is directly related but there is no correlation between their functionality and its recognition by the participants.

An example is someone who committed muder that was jailed for life in a prison. The instutition as a functional place is where he is meant to be. But most times, the participant (The muderer) would never recognized the function of the socal institution (The prison) because he never believed that he should be kept there in the first place.
