Why was it important to select study participants who played basketball regularly?

    Because You need to have a baseline of their typical basketball shooting performance.

    If we choose to take the participants who never or rarely play basketball, we wouldn't be able to know what might of might not influence the success rate of their shoots, because they couldn't even shot properly to begin with
