Medical words are composed of suffixes, the root word and/or a prefix. An example of a root word in medicine is arth which means joint, another is hepat which describes liver, ven which means vein. In this case, to define medical terms, we define each of the parts of the word to perfectly understand the devised word anew. we describe the root word as we recognize them, then the suffix and moving to the beginning of the term. An example is osteoarthropathy. pathy means disease, arthro means joints, and osteo on the other hand means bones. In this case, the meaning of the word then is disease of the joints and bones.
