Alexander sought allies to successfully invade Tire. It counted on the support of some Cypriot troops and other Phoenicians that were already exploited by the tirense. However, they were surprised by civilians who tried to set fire to all the invaders' equipment, forcing them to fight for the sea.

In this battle, about 400 Macedonian soldiers perished, which made Alexander furious. Without hesitating, he ordered a violent onslaught: he killed more than 8,000 Tyrians and made 30,000 civilians out of slaves, successfully conquering the city of Tire to pursue his plan to dominate the powerful Greeks and Persians.
