Why did war break out between the united states and mexico?

    The Mexican-American war started on April 25, 1846 because Mexico claimed the Nueces River as its northeastern border while the United States claimed the Rio Grande River as their border. Both countries met at the Rio Grande, and Mexico opened fire.

    Basically, territorial disputes.
