Who is the individual responsible for controlling and coordinating all ranges and publishing safe range use requirements?

Range control officer is in authority for monitoring and organizing all ranges and distributing safe range use requirements. In addition, range control officer also:

• Ensures only qualified personnel operate on ranges and revokes access for those who violate policy and procedure.

• Supervises the training and certification program for all office in charge and range safety officer.

• Maintains information on known hazards, ammunition expended, dud accumulation, clearance status of explosive ordinance in impact areas, surface danger zone and aircraft zones, weapons systems safety data, firing limitations and maps.

• Assist in installation of dud awareness education program on and off post.

• Serves as a member of the range accident investigation team when needed.

• Develops and publishes an installation/community range regulation on the dangers associated with range activities.

• Coordinates the building and maintenance of all range facilities with installation facility engineers.

• Exercises approval of authority for overhead fire during live-fire exercises in accordance with specifications of MCO 3570.1B
